DC motors, drives and gearmotors offer an alternative to AC for variable speed applications and offer a greater capability giving a 20:1 speed range with constant torque. Common applications for DC motors include conveyor systems, packaging machines, feeders, welding positioners, pumps, machine tools, screening and printing equipment, indexers, web handling and unwind/rewind stands. DC is a cheaper alternative to servo systems.
